Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)
Another technique for assisted reproduction involves the deliberate introduction of sperm into a female’s reproductive system to achieve pregnancy through in-vivo fertilisation. Artificial insemination/intrauterine insemination (IUI), as the name implies, is a technique for injecting laboratory-prepared sperm into the uterine canal to boost their count and motility. A thin, flexible catheter inserts sperms into the vaginal canal or the uterine cervix. The procedure’s timing is crucial since it must coincide with ovulation. We can do IUI during a natural or medicated/stimulated menstrual cycle. IUI is based on the premise that women having trouble conceiving might benefit from the precise timing and placement of a robust sperm inside the endometrial cavity. In situations with a cervical factor, such as scarring, stenosis, or thick cervical mucus, or a modest male factor, such as decreased sperm count and motility, as well as a problem attaining or synchronising intercourse with ovulation, IUI may be of great assistance. Single women who get donated sperm can also use this procedure. Women with a low ovarian reserve, older women, and those who previously did IVF with medications but only produced a single follicle are more likely to experience this. Furthermore, it is essential to note that an IVF treatment might take up to three months, from ovarian stimulation to the completion of therapy. Up to three tries with a natural cycle can be conducted simultaneously.
